Amy's Run for Hailey's Hope

Hi everyone, thank you for visiting my web page. As many of you may
know, I am about to embark on the challenge of a lifetime. On August 30, 2009 I will be tackling the roads of Quebec, participating in the biggest international sports event in Greater Quebec City and one of the most popular in Canada—The SSQ Quebec City Marathon. That’s right…26.2 LONG miles. Not only am I trying to get back into shape after the birth of
my lovely daughter in December, but I am also running for a great cause.
I am proud to be running to raise money for Hailey’s Hope Foundation, a local charity established by my friends which helps NICU families. Hailey’s Hope Foundation, a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity, provides financial support and valuable resources to families in need who have premature and seriously ill babies hospitalized in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
at the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York.

My friends and their families lived through 8 frightening NICU experiences and suffered the loss of their niece, Hailey, born prematurely at 21 weeks and passed away shortly after birth. They know first hand the incredible emotional and financial toll a NICU stay can take on a family. The Foundation, created in Hailey’s memory, is their way of giving other families the same love and support they received during these difficult times. Through their Financial Support Program, Hailey’s Hope Foundation helps families in need pay for essential non-medical expenses, such as hotel lodging, transportation, food and hospital parking, while their babies are in the NICU. Although it will be a challenge for me to complete this race, I will be especially motivated by the excitement of knowing that it will benefit such a worthy cause.
